- Importance of Wayfinding & Directional Signs
The objective of wayfinding and directional signage is to direct your customers towards and to guide them through your premises.
If your business has relocated or expanded, is tucked away from main traffic areas or is comprised of two or more separate buildings you could benefit from a well-planned directional signage system.
Wayfinding is affected by three factors:Architecture: Physical or structural building elements such as stairs, foyers, hallways and load bearing pillars Interior Design: Ornamental or decorative elements within a premises such as wall-coverings, lighting, floors, and artworkEnvironmental Graphics: Information such as room and area signs, directories, window or wall art and advisory signage
When people find themselves in unfamiliar surroundings, they look for two things:
- Information such as the setting and where they are in relation to it, plus where their destination lies, usually in the form of maps, floor plans and building directories.
- Signage to help direct them to their destination, e.g. overhead or wall signs using arrows and text with descriptions of building features.
